{Sweet Treat Tuesday} Chocolate Peanut Candy

Happy Tuesday everyone! It’s Sweet Treat Tuesday and I thought I’d show you what I made over the weekend for my mother-in-law’s birthday party.

She’s not a big fan of chocolate (yeah, do you believe it), so I made her a wonderful french vanilla cake with vanilla buttercreme frosting which see loves.   I just knew the rest of the family would be looking for something chocolate so I made this delicious chocolate peanut candy for them. It was actually a very nice compliment to the vanilla cake.

You’ll love it because it goes together pretty quickly and only calls for 4 ingredients: Roasted Salted Peanuts; Chocolate Chips; Baker’s Chocolate and Vanilla Almond Bark.

Candy,ingredients

To begin, empty a 16 oz. jar of Dry Roasted Peanuts in a large bowl.

You’ll need a double-boiler to melt the chocolate so it doesn’t burn. The chocolate melts pretty quickly.

(I use 2 pans. I fill the bottom one with water deep enough so that the top pan just sits on it.)

I begin by melting the almond bark.

Next add the chocolates and stir constantly until all mixed together.

Pour melted chocolate over peanuts.

Mix chocolate and peanuts together quickly.

I used cupcake liners to put the chocolate in.

Depending on how large you want your pieces to be, you can use either the regular cupcake liners or the small candy ones.  I had the regular ones on hand and I like the colors too.

A small ice cream scoop makes the perfect portion.

{Sweet Treat} Surprise Valentine Cookies

Everyone is always looking for ideas around Valentine’s Day and I’m no different.

When I spotted these cookies,

I realized that I buy Candiquik and Wilton chocolates to dip my pretzels,  fill my candy molds and even dip my candy apples in,  but never to frost my cookies.

Hey, why not?

These surprise cookies by Miss Candiquik are loads of fun to make and have lots of possibilities.

{Sweet Treat} Maybe for Thanksgiving?

Happy Tuesday party peeps!  Time for a Sweet Treat!

Have you heard the news that Hostess may be shutting down business?  Yes, the home of the Ding Dongs, Ho Ho’s, Twinkies and many more goodies going away forever.  So hard to believe since I grew up on these goodies.

Well, after perusing Pinterest, I saw this Twinkie cupcake and had to have the recipe and wanted to pass it on.

I have to admit that I haven’t had a twinkie in years but the thought of never having another one made we want to try this recipe even more.

This next sweet treat is in honor of my son, Robbie. The peanut butter king.

I mean this guy goes through peanut butter like it’s going out of style.

Isn’t it fantastic!

His friends will be coming over this week since they are on Thanksgiving break and this is what I’m serving.

This beauty is the creation of Sprinles Bakes and she says it’s very rich, so it’ll feed a crowd.

If you don’t want to go the traditional route, it may be fun for Thanksgiving too!

This third dessert really excites me too because my daughter Kate loves cheese cake.

She loves pumpkin too, so why not Mini pumpkin cheese cakes. Brillant! I love Glorious Sweets and she makes it very simple.

I hope you’ll try some thing new this Thanksgiving season.  I know I am!

HAVE A VERY SWEET THANKSGIVING!

{Sweet Treat} Taffy Apples

Now that the weather is changing and there’s a chill in the air, it reminds me of apple picking time.

Every year as a family, we head out for a trip to the apple orchard which is only about 45 minutes from our house.

It’s been a tradition with us for some time now.  Guess it signifies fall has arrived.

Upon arrival we park and head over to the flat bed truck which has bunches of hay on it.

We grab a spot to sit as we head out to the orchard with our bussels in hand.  Ofcourse, we always pick more than we can eat so, what to do with the extra apples?

Why make Taffy Apples of course!

Here’s a lttle inspiration for your apples.

How about a Triple Dip  S’more Apple?

{Sweet Treat} Home-Made Popsicles

Now that temperatures are hitting in the 90′s here in Chicago,  it is definitely time to  break out the popsicle molds and make some to cool off.

Nothing tastes better on these hot summer days than fresh-from-the-freezer homemade ice pops.

If you’re in a pinch,  whatever juice you have on hand and a dixie paper cup will do the trick.

Just label your popsicle stick when you display them so everyone knows the flavor.

I love making popsicles because there are so many options to try and  they’re  so simple.

So I thought I’d share some with you.

To start with, I’m a chocolate girl and this creamy fudgsicle is mighty nice.

Recipe here

My daughter Kate loves Kiwi so I have to have this one for her.

This yummy Orange-Banana Smoothie Pop is one of my favorites and the molds are so fun!

If you want to wow the kids, how about trying the rainbow popsicle. Takes a little more time but it’s worth it.

 I love this last one.

The Confetti Ice Cream Pops.

Beneath the confetti-candy covering of these ice cream pops lies a fun surprise.

How COOL is that?

{Sweet Treats} Star Spangled Drinkies

It is 90 degrees here in Chicago today and my mind is definitely on something cool and refreshing.

Since we’re heading into the  holiday weekend,

I thought these beautiful drinks would be fun and festive to serve the adults.

Of course, we want to be patriotic, so how about this RED, WHITE and BLUE TRIO ?

FIRST UP:  How about a Frosty Raspberry-Lime Margarita ?  Yes, yes!

Or, maybe a Frozen White Chocolate ?   Did someone say Chocolate?

Or finally, a Blended Blue Hawaiian   Love the blue, so  tranquil.

( which is what I will  be after I drink a few:)

These ought to quench your thirst and make your guests pretty happy! (and you too!) :)

As pretty as these choices are, maybe you’re thinking a little more dessertie. (is that a word?)

If so, I thought I’d bring back my Blueberry and Strawberry Smoothies.

I served these last year on the 4th of July and they were a huge hit with everyone. Yes, even the kids.

(Straws available in Party Patisserie Shop)

So simple to make:

Strawberry Smoothie:

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen strawberries (10-oz. package)
  • 3/4 cup plain low-fat yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

For the BlueBerry Smoothie follow the same recipe or leave out the banana. (your preference)

Add a fruit garnish and you’re in a “happy place”.

For shakes, just substitute the yogurt for vanilla ice cream. YUM YUM!!

Hope you enjoyed our Star Spangled Drinkies and will give them a try this weekend.

Have a fun and safe Memorial weekend!
