All About Daisies for Darcy Miller {Interview}

August 7, 2012 by Party Patisserie Filed Under: Sweet Inspirations 14 Comments

Who do you get to throw a party for Martha Stewart, Dylan Lauren of Dylan’s Candy Bar, and  designer Mark Ingram?

Darcy Miller, of course.

You may know Darcy as the Editorial Director of Martha Stewart Weddings and as Martha Stewart’s Celebrations Expert.

She recently took time out of her busy schedule to talk with me about her new Daisy Party Collection on OpenSky.

Yes, you heard me right. We actually talked on the phone!  (I can’t stop smiling!)  She is not only adorable and talented, but just as sweet as can be.  I’m still doing a happy dance!!!

As you may know, OpenSky is a shopping website featuring the top picks of experts in the food, style, health and design industries.

Along with working for Martha Stewart Weddings, Darcy is an author, illustrator, and mom of three adorable little girls. She understands it can be difficult and time consuming for busy moms to successfully pull off a party.

This is where her Summer Daisy Party Collection comes in. She put together a beautiful selection of all of her favorite daisy party items for you to make planning your party easier.

I asked her what she wanted us to know about the collection.  “Everything in the collection is about having fun for any celebration, from baby showers and bridal showers to birthday celebrations and a summer party—even fun hostess gifts.”

I also asked why she chose a daisy theme for her collection. “Two of my favorite events were a Daisy wedding that we shot for Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine and my daughter Daisy’s first ‘daisy’ birthday party,” Darcy says.

The daisy-themed products in Darcy’s collection are from shops around the Web. You can pick and choose items from the collection to make your own daisy party unique. It makes the planning and shopping so easy.  As Darcy says, “Incorporate what is fun for you.”

With products ranging from Daisy Lollipops and Stickers to Yellow Parasols and Daisy Favor Boxes, it isn’t hard to imagine how much fun your party will be!

Being a party planner,  I had to ask  what her best piece of advice would be for planning an event.  “Be organized and do anything you can ahead of time. It will save you money.”  She also explained that each party has three elements: Decorations, Entertainment and Food.  She advises to figure out which things are important to you and do those things. Then, be sure to enjoy the party!

We discussed how to get inspiration for a party. She suggests to first make a short list of what that person likes or what’s important to them.  She believes each party should be unique to the person being celebrated.

For example, it was fun to hear about the birthday party she planned for Martha.  Darcy took her lead from Martha’s love of Scrabble and her favorite foods. She gave the party a Scrabble and puzzle theme and built around it.

Her final point for planning an event is to pay attention to color, and to keep the same color palette throughout the party.
