Hello everyone! It has been really cold here lately and did I mention that we’re also enjoying 15 inches of snow :). That’s winter in Chicago!
It has definitely put me in the mood for something comforting. So, how about a hot chocolate break in the afternoon, sitting by the fire, I thought?
Doesn’t that sound great? Well, I did just that! I made a pot of hot chocolate and a batch of marshmallows to top it off.
I have a great Hot Chocolate recipe to share with you, but I have to warn you that it’s like drinking a dessert. It’s really rich and simply delicious!
This recipe is so decadent that I thought it would be perfect for a Valentine’s Day celebration too! I hope you’ll enjoy a cup!
HOT CHOCOLATE Recipe:
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 2 Tbs. sugar
- Pinch of salt
- 8 oz. dark chocolate, shaved (choose any chocolate you love)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- Marshmallows or whipped cream
DIRECTIONS:
In saucepan over medium-high heat combine cream, milk, sugar and salt and heat until it reaches 180 degrees or desired temp. Meanwhile, fill the pot that you are going to serve the chocolate in with very hot water and let stand for several minutes. ( this step is to warm the pot).
After the pot is warm, pour the hot water out and pour the hot cream mixture in and add the chocolate and vanilla. Beat the mixture until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth.
Pour the hot chocolate into warmed mugs and serve immediately. Top with a beautiful marshmallow. Serves 4.
Homemade marshmallows are sooo good and fun to make! (get recipe here)
