Embellish Your Picture Frames

April 14, 2015 by Party Patisserie Filed Under: Create, Decorate 2 Comments

Hello everyone! Today I have a fun project for you. I’ve inherited some wonderful pictures and wanted to frame them. These are such precious pictures to me and no ordinary frame would do. So why not embellish the frames?

I purchased a few frames at Home Goods that had the color and texture I was going for.

Next, I purchased some ribbon and a pretty jewel.  When I was shopping, I saw a belt that had two jewels on it and was on clearance for $4.99. What a lucky find! Tip: Always check out stores that carry inexpensive accessories such as Charming Charlie. You never know what you’re going to find!

Supplies:

  • A 12×17 picture frame
  • Satin, organdy and burlap ribbons
  • A jewel
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • A photo

Begin with a 16″ piece of burlap ribbon and hot glue it to the top of the frame.

Cut a piece of gray satin ribbon 16″ long. Scrunch the ribbon together in the center. Hot glue it to hold the gathered center, and glue it to the burlap ribbon.

Using another piece of the satin ribbon to make your bow, take the ends of the ribbons and glue together on the back side.

Flip it over and pinch it again in the center.

Glue it on top of the straight ribbon.

Now take the ends of the satin ribbon, loop them under the bow and glue down to underside. Finish off the ends of the burlap ribbon by cutting a triangular shape.

Make a bow out of the organdy sheer ribbon and glue down. Finish the ends by cutting them on an angle.

And the piece de resistance is the jewel glued to the center of the bow.

Insert your photo.

Do you like it?

I was so happy with it that I made another one using a smaller frame.  This time I kept it simpler. I found this wonderful wide, gray ribbon and scrunched it in the center. Then I tucked the ends under and glued them down. I added a little organdy to the center, and glued the jewel on top.

And that’s it! I think it would make a beautiful gift! How about Mother’s Day?

Thanks for these picture frame embellishment ideas. I’ll admit, that frame looks a lot better with the silver gray bow with the fake diamond attached to it. It looks perfect with the picture of the older picture of this mother and her family because the embellishment has a very vintage style. Judging by the style of the clothes of the people in these pictures, it seems like they were taken in the mid to late 1940’s. Using a larger diamond with a silver grey and light purple color scheme look really good with black and white photos.
