How to make spooky spider Halloween bark

October 29, 2016 by Party Patisserie Filed Under: Cook Leave a Comment

I don’t know about you, but Halloween definitely creeped up on me this year. (See what I did there?) 🙂

It’s just a few days away, and if you’re looking for a festive treat you can whip up fast—and I mean fast—this spooky spider Halloween bark is the dessert you’re looking for.

Spooky Spider Halloween Bark

I make chocolate bark often, not only because it’s easy to make, but because everyone loves it. You can decorate it for any holiday (check out our Easter bark), and it always looks cute.

This is a great dessert to take to a Halloween party, and you’ll definitely want some on hand for Monday while you’re waiting for trick-or-treaters. (Trust me.)

Isn’t it adorable?

Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. white chocolate or almond bark
  • 1 bag black chocolate candy wafers (I used Wilton)
  • Sprinkles
  • Colored candy disks
  • Googly candy eyes
  • Skittles or M&Ms

Directions:

Prepare a cookie sheet by lining it with wax paper or parchment paper. Set aside.

Make the “BOOs”:

Put the black chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl and melt. Quickly pour the melted chocolate into a small plastic squirt bottle.

Lay out a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper, and write out “BOO” with the melted chocolate several times. If you don’t trust your handwriting, you can print out a template and place it underneath the parchment paper to use as a guide. (I used a “BOO” from some cute napkins I had.)

When you’ve written as many “BOOs” as you’d like, place the parchment paper in the refrigerator to harden the chocolate.

Make the spiders:

Lay out another sheet of parchment paper or wax paper. Squirt some melted chocolate on the back of two googly eyes, and “glue” them on top of one of the colored candy disks.

Then, using the melted chocolate, draw a circle about the size of the colored disks, and fill it in. (This will be the spider’s body.) Draw legs coming out of the body, and then push the colored disk with the eyes on top of the chocolate body. (Drawing the chocolate body on the parchment paper gives the legs something to stick to.)

After you make several spiders, place them in the fridge to harden.

Assemble the bark:

Melt the white chocolate bark in the microwave.

Add a few drops of purple food coloring, and lightly mix to get a marbleized effect.

Pour the purple bark onto the prepared cookie sheet, and spread it out evenly.

Carefully push the hardened “BOOs” and spiders into the purple bark. Then add your sprinkles, M&Ms, Skittles and any other candies you’d like.

Let the bark harden overnight, or put it in the fridge to speed up the process.

Once the bark is hardened, break it into pieces and serve!

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Stay spooky. 🙂
